We are so thrilled to announce a partnership with One Tree Planted, a non-profit tree organization dedicated to global tree planting initiatives. One Tree Planted has had 681+ partnerships in 80+ counties and has planted over 92,000,000 trees. They focus on the following six global regions: North America, Latin America, Africa, Asia, Europe, and The Pacific.
Great Pretenders is excited to partner with One Tree Planted to support the following areas: Nova Scotia & and The American National Forests.
Our decision to support a tree planting initiative in Nova Scotia stems from the wildfires we have seen this summer, resulting in the worst wildfire in Canadian history. These wildfires have consumed 8.8 million hectares of forest. The reforestation project in Nova Scotia will prioritize climate change resilience and carbon storage, in addition to resilience against insects and disease. This will be made possible by planting native tree species found in the regional diverse Acadian forests. This project will work with local reforestation organizations, watershed alliances, and land trusts to plant over 120,000 trees. Along with reforestation efforts, planting in Nova Scotia will create more opportunities for outdoor recreation and activities. Nova Scotia is home to two national parks – Kejimkujik and Cape Breton Highlands – that allow residents to get outside and enjoy the beautiful nature surrounding them!
The National Forests Projects exists to restore the outdoors through replanting initiatives in 20+ iconic National Forests! From mighty maples to ponderosa pines, each of their National Forest projects will help restore land damaged by events like fires, extreme weather, tree diseases, insect infestation, and more. One benefit of restoring public land is that outdoor recreation spaces will be bolstered, creating new opportunities for communities and visitors to connect with nature. Many of the United States' most iconic wildlife species, including brown bear, white-tailed deer, and countless songbirds, will also benefit from restored habitat!
